Matt joined us on December 16, 2014 as Dir. of Youth Ministry. Prior
to coming here, Matt worked for seven years at
South Shore Trinity Lutheran Church in White
Bear Lake, MN, responsible for overseeing the
Youth Program, Sunday School, Confirmation and
Vacation Bible School.
Matt was raised in
Milwaukee and graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran
High School. He moved to St. Paul, MN, to
attend Concordia University, where he took
courses in the Director of Christian Education
Program and majored in Parish Administration. He
graduated from Concordia in May 2007 and joined
South Shore Trinity Lutheran Church that fall.
In 2010 Matt married Joy, who teaches at Lake
Country Lutheran High School. Their first child Elliott
was born in May 2016 and also have two daughters: Ava born in February 2019
and Evelyn in February of 2023.
In his free time, Matt loves spending time with his family
and extended family (who live in the area), golfing, running,
watching old movies, and traveling up north.
UNITY is excited to welcome one of its own into a staff role! Nicole Krause started on May 15,
assisting in a variety of roles with which she is already very familiar. A member of UNITY
since she was 4 years old, Nicole grew up immersed in our community and having experienced
almost all of our programs.
At UNITY, Nicole will assist with an assortment of jobs where needed. As she explains,
“I’ll be helping out with VBS, with Youth events when Confirmation resumes, and with our Sr.
High program. I’ll also be shadowing Muriel for Servant Ministries and taking over some
of those areas, such as coordinating plans and travel for El Salvador trips. There are
also other areas, such as leading Grief Groups, where I’ll be able to step in and help.”
Nicole is excited to embrace this next phase in her life. “I’m most looking forward to
experiencing UNITY in a different way that will make me fall in love with it even more
and in a whole new way,” she says. “Honestly? It’s the people that make this place,
and the longevity of the members speaks for itself. The staff works tirelessly and (seemingly!)
effortlessly to keep people updated, and the outreach and support to the community
is above and beyond any congregation I’ve ever seen. I’m very much looking forward to fostering that.”
When Nancy Oberhauser joined our staff as Director of Program Support on July 7, she had already been immersed in our
culture for four decades. Her father, Tom Leverenz, was a Charter member of Cross of Life, so she has been attending here since the early 1980’s. Nancy was Confirmed at COL, assisted with the early VBS years, and was even part of the inaugural Sr. High Boundary Waters Trip. Nancy’s role will have two primary areas of focus: Youth Programming Support and Pastoral Care Visits.
In her own words: "My father was a Charter member of Cross of Life, so I’ve been coming here since the early 1980’s. When I was young, my parents attended two different churches, but I was drawn to attend Unity (COL) because it felt like everyone was so welcoming. They actively wanted to be there, and had a common vision, to reflect God’s love to the world in so many ways.
I was Confirmed at COL, and remember helping with the early VBS years alongside friends. During my high school years, I was part of the inaugural Boundary Waters trip, and we also went on a group ski trip to Brule, staying at a church family’s cabin up north. Over those years, we had so many adult leaders that gave generously of their time, talent, wisdom, and resources, to help build an awesome community for me and my peers.
For many years, I had been away from Wisconsin, but I moved back in 2013. I’m now married to John, and have two sons, Jack & Sam. With teenage sons of my own, I want them to experience all of the adventures, wonder, and service opportunities that are available to our youth. Jack and I have been on 2 Appalachia Service Project trips, and one Boundary Waters trip with the High School youth. I hope to plant the seeds of love and faith, alongside other adult leaders, so that as our youth grow up and go out into the world, they remember that God walks with them, and loves them unconditionally."
UNITY is thrilled to welcome another "lifer" as Madison Arredondo officially joined our staff on August 1! "I've been at UNITY for 27 years, my entire life." Madison says. "My parents (Mike and Michelle Aprahamian) were married here, I was baptized here, and my husband and I were married here in December of 2022. It feels like a full-circle moment."
A 2016 graduate of Brookfield Central High School, Madison attended Florida International University, graduating from there in 2019 with a triple-major in International Relations, Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. From there she earned her Master's Degree in Teaching from Carroll University in 2023. In addition, she is also certified in English as a Second Language.
Growing up, Madison experienced all the programs UNITY had to offer, including Sunday School, VBS, Confirmation, the East Coast Road Trip (both as a student & adult), and El Salvador. This immersion in our culture, along with her education and experience, makes her role as our Director of Communications a natural fit.
Madison lives in Menomonee Falls (2 minutes away from the CTK campus) with her husband, Ivan, and their daughter, Magdalena (or Lena as she is known by the staff). As Madison explains, “I needed to find something other than teaching to provide me with greater flexibility. Pastor Sherrie mentioned to me that this position was open, and I thought, ‘This is a sign from God! It really is!’”
