United in Christ, Together in Ministry!

Light by David Patterson

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ~ John 1:5

All of creation sparkled with beauty as it joined together to celebrate the nativity of our Lord.

· The shining star in the East shone forth in awesome wonder.

· The mule that carried the Virgin, and the beasts in the stable huddled around a burning fire raised their voices in praise.

· The glistening straw in the manger, upon which the baby Jesus slept, surrounded the newborn Lord with warmth.

· The flax, woven by candlelight into swaddling clothes, and the trees, fashioned by the Joseph into the manger, welcomed the Christ child.

· The camels that followed starlight as they carried the Wisemen, and the sheep, in their fields, upon which the angels shone, danced and skipped as the ancient promise of the messiah was fulfilled.

· The shimmering gold, the myrrh and smoldering frankincense harvested from trees, expressed homage to the newborn King.

· The dazzling cherubim, seraphim, Gabriel and the hosts of angels glorified God in the highest heavens on the holy night of the Savior’s birth

· The lampblack ink and aquatic papyrus, upon which the prophecies and Gospel were written, proclaimed the glad tidings of Immanuel’s birth illuminating the hearts of all generations.

Creator God, whose first creation was light, continue to overcome this world’s darkness, and help us reflect and pass on your light to those who still sit in darkness. Amen.
