Peace by Tami Miller

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.  ~John  14:27

Coming to terms with difficult news is tough. Throughout my career in a healthcare setting, my team has had conversations with new parents that deliver life changing news.  The reaction to this news varies, of course, but the most common reactions are fear, loss and sadness.  From those dark days, though, I’ve also witnessed the same families experience hundreds of moments of happiness, growth, hope, joy and peace!  Knowledge, perspective, advocacy, trust, and engagement build over time and a transition from grief to peace evolves.

Our faith journey hits bumps and lows at times, too. Unexpected news brings fear, loss, and sadness.  God and the peace that comes from him are there to ease our anxiety and worries. Turning towards God in times of trouble, but also in better times brings peace that is eternal.  Knowledge of God’s love for us; perspective that comes with time; advocacy of others through prayer; trust that God’s peace will come; and engagement in building our faith are all steps that can bring peace into our troubled hearts.

Dear Lord, we experience difficulty and challenges.  Remind us to come to you at the start of our anxiety, sadness and loss, and we can be transformed with your peace.  Thank you for this wonderful gift. Amen.
